Survey: Maturity of engineering simulation and AI/ML adoption in the automotive industry
Survey: Maturity of engineering simulation and AI/ML adoption in the automotive industry
Thank you for contributing to the survey and shaping the future of digital engineering

As a collaborative effort between NAFEMS and McKinsey & Company, we are jointly conducting this survey to get a granular understanding of the current maturity and breadth of use of simulation technologies across the automotive industry. In this context, it is important for us to understand the key use cases and value drivers of virtual modelling and simulation.

To achieve a well-rounded perspective on these topics, this survey addresses both the users of simulation technologies as well as providers of relevant tools. Based on this survey and the results, we hope to drive impact and boost innovation in the automotive industry and subsequently expand the scope to other industries.

The survey emcompasses both classical Engineering Simulation (ES) based on (multi-)physics methodologies focused on solving partial differential equations (e.g., FEA, CFD) as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML)-based technologies (see definition below) that leverage data to predict product/system/component performance. When we refer to AI/ML-based methods, we do not consider them as a replacement of multiphysics technologies, but rather as complementing with their own benefits and drawbacks.

When completing the survey, please focus on the best and most advanced tools you are currently experiencing in your company in 2024.

This survey should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. We will treat the responses completely anonymous and confidential.

Thank you for your time and the insights generated through your responses. For your information, here are the results of last year's survey: https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/operations/our-insights/unveiling-the-next-frontier-of-engineering-simulation
